چکیده

The asymptotic frequency, ω, dependence of the dynamic viscosity of neutral hard sphere colloidal suspensions is shown to be of the form η 0 A(φ)(ωτ P) −1/2 , where A(φ) has been determined as a function of the volume fraction φ, for all concentrations in the fluid range, η 0 is the solvent viscosity and τ P the Péclet time. For a soft potential it is shown that, to leading order in the steepness, the asymptotic behavior is the same as that for the hard sphere potential and a condition for the cross-over behavior to 1/ωτ P is given. Our result for the hard sphere potential generalizes a result of Cichocki and Felderhof obtained at low concentrations [1] and agrees well with the experiments of van der Werff et al [2] , if the usual Stokes-Einstein diffusion coefficient D 0 in the Smoluchowski operator is consistently replaced by the short-time self diffusion coefficient D s (φ) for non-dilute colloidal suspensions.

Electrically guided assembly of planar superlattices in binary colloidal suspensions.

Binary colloidal suspensions are assembled into planar superlattices using ac electric fields. Either triangular or square-packed arrays form, depending on the frequency and relative particle concentrations. The frequency dependence is striking since superlattices develop at low and high frequencies but not at intermediate frequencies. We explain the low frequency behavior (<3 kHz) in terms of ...

Higher-order glass-transition singularities in colloidal systems with attractive interactions.

The transition from a liquid to a glass in colloidal suspensions of particles interacting through a hard core plus an attractive square-well potential is studied within the mode-coupling-theory framework. When the width of the attractive potential is much shorter than the hard-core diameter, a reentrant behavior of the liquid-glass line and a glass-glass-transition line are found in the tempera...

Dispersion Properties of Nano YSZ Particles in Aqueous Suspensions

In the present research, the aqueous suspensions of nano-sized YSZ particles were prepared using a common and available dispersant (Dolapix CE64) at different pH values and their stability were evaluated through the sedimentation height, viscosity measurement, and microstructural observation. Different amounts of dispersant were tested and the optimum percentage was examined by measuring the vi...

Computation of shear viscosity of colloidal suspensions by SRD-MD.

The behaviour of sheared colloidal suspensions with full hydrodynamic interactions (HIs) is numerically studied. To this end, we use the hybrid stochastic rotation dynamics-molecular dynamics (SRD-MD) method. The shear viscosity of colloidal suspensions is computed for different volume fractions, both for dilute and concentrated cases. We verify that HIs help in the collisions and the streaming...

Evidence of a higher-order singularity in dense short-ranged attractive colloids.

We study a model in which particles interact through a hard-core repulsion complemented by a short-ranged attractive potential of the kind found in colloidal suspensions. Combining theoretical and numerical work we locate the line of higher-order glass-transition singularities and its end point-named A4-on the fluid-glass line. Close to the A4 point, we detect logarithmic decay of density corre...
